Aventurine is a form of quartz and is mostly green but can also come in orange (red) yellow blue and brown. We have found that aventurine beads, as well as being a fine gemstone in their own right, to be a useful (even though not the same) substitute for the green of jade and the red of carnelian when in a pinch.
